The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations. The CALEA Accreditation program seals are reserved for use by those public safety agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA Standards and have been awarded CALEA Accreditation by the Commission.
Guided by our mission, vision, and organizational values, the Frisco Police Department took an engaging, participatory approach to the accreditation process, which required assigning the lion's share of policy research and development to many members.
Additionally, this includes familiarizing new employees with the accreditation process during the orientation phase of employment.
These voluntary efforts are made to assure our citizens the Frisco Police Department is committed to professional excellence and delivery of the highest level of service to our community.
Law Enforcement Accreditation
In 2008, the Frisco Police Department completed its initial voluntary assessment against a body of 459 nationally-recognized professional standards developed by CALEA. This required an in-depth review and audit of every aspect of the department's organization, management, operations, and administration. On December 6, 2008, our department was awarded full Law Enforcement Accreditation.

Communications Accreditation
In November of 2017, the Frisco Police Department’s Communications Division received its initial CALEA Communications Accreditation. Our department is only one of four municipal agencies in Texas that is dually accredited in Law Enforcement and Communications Accreditation.
The Communications Division subsequently received its reaccreditation in November of 2021.
CALEA Public Comment Portal
As part of its accreditation, CALEA has created a public comment portal, which can be found here CALEA Public Comment Portal. The portal is designed to receive comments regarding the Frisco Police Department’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service of the community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status.
These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
