Water Management Plan

The Frisco City Council adopted a Water Management Plan (PDF) with water efficiency measures to help prevent water waste. The plan is divided into two parts: the Water Efficiency Plan and the Drought and Emergency Response Plan. This information provides a general description of the various water use reduction measures.

Water Efficiency Plan

In May 2024, the Frisco City Council unanimously approved an updated Water Efficiency Plan with 'Best Management Practices' (BMPs) for the long-term protection of our water supply.

These BMPs focus on key measures for water conservation:

  • No watering (using automatic irrigation) between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from April 1 to October 31.
  • The option to water using a hand-held hose, soaker hoses, drip irrigation, or bubbler systems when needed.
  • The ‘Year-Round Outdoor Watering Schedules’ as shown in the table below:

Year-Round Outdoor Watering Schedules_2024 WMP

During summer, residents may water twice per week -- on their regular trash day and on a second, designated watering day. Outdoor watering during spring and fall is limited to one day per week on a resident’s designated trash day.  During winter, no watering of turfgrass by rotor or spray nozzles is allowed.

No watering exemptions will be given for turfgrass areas for existing homes during June, July, and August due to the extra watering day. Landscape areas irrigated by drip do not need to apply for an exemption since they are allowed to water any day, when needed.

Non-residential customer watering days are based on location within the residential trash/recycling day zones.

Drought & Emergency Response Plan

The purpose of the Drought and Emergency Response Plan is to conserve the available water supply and protect public health, welfare, and safety in times of drought and emergencies. This plan, which focuses on reservoir capacity and water supply issues, was developed in consultation with the North Texas Municipal Water District.
