Use The Food

Of all the food produced, about 40% is wasted1

Who Wastes Food?

There is waste across the supply chain. Farms, manufacturing, food service, retail, and at residential homes.  Of all the sectors, residential generates the most wasted food, 21 million tons in 20192

What is the "Use The Food Challenge"?

Use The Food Challenge is a 6-week e-course that you can learn at your own pace. This course is designed to help households and individuals with re-examining our habits around food to prevent food from being wasted. All Frisco residents interested in participating are welcome to register for the Challenge - stay tuned for sign-up.

Each week there is a short lesson around our various food habits to be completed on your time.
Week 1: Introduction
Week 2: Organizing
Week 3: Planning
Week 4: Storing
Week 5: Eating
Week 6: Composting

Why Should I Participate?

Nobody likes wasting food, and more than not liking it, the NRDC estimated that households of 4 wasted an average of $1,500 a year in 20202. More than saving money, you're helping promote planetary health and to reduce food insecurity. We aren't saying food waste won't happen, but one person being perfectly without food waste is less beneficial than lots of people actively working to reduce their food waste. Between the lesson and the activities, each week should only take about 1 hour. The course can be done at your own pace.

When registering to participate, you can opt for the online-only version or you can opt to receive a physical copy of the guidebook as well as borrow a kitchen scale and bucket  during the program.

This program has received funding from the Bloomberg American Health Initiative.
