Insurance Dismissal

If you had insurance coverage on the date and time of the incident, you could present proof to the court and your case may be considered for dismissal. You can present the document online, by mail or in person. You must supply a valid insurance card or policy before your court appearance date. A court staff will call the insurance agency to verify coverage. After verification, a judge will review the case and decide.

Yes, I had insurance coverage.

No, I cannot provide proof or did not have insurance coverage.

Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibility Act

Each conviction for this offense will result in the assessment of an annual surcharge of $250 (for three consecutive years) by the State under the Driver Responsibility Act (Transportation Code 708.105). Multiple convictions will result in multiple surcharges.

In addition, a second or subsequent conviction of this offense under the Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibility Act will result in the suspension of your driver's license and motor vehicle registration unless you file and maintain proof of financial responsibility (insurance) with the Department of Public Safety for 2 years following the date of conviction. DPS may waive this requirement if you file satisfactory evidence with DPS showing that at the time the citation was issued, the vehicle was indeed covered by a motor vehicle insurance policy, or that you were otherwise exempt from the requirements to provide proof of financial responsibility [Transportation Code 601.233(a)].
