Driverless Car Pilot Program

Frisco’s North Platinum Corridor was host to the first autonomous vehicle pilot program in Texas for on-demand, driverless car service on public roads.

In July 2018, the Frisco Transportation Management Association launched a successful eight month pilot program, featuring autonomous vehicle company Drive.ai. The self-driving vehicles conducted more than 3,000 trips along a fixed route to transport nearly 5,000 riders between Hall Park, The Star and Frisco Station developments.

Following completion of the project, city engineers worked with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) to conduct a survey which measured consumer acceptance of autonomous vehicles. The research was published by TTI in August 2019 and confirmed pilot programs are needed to help residents build trust in ai technology.
