What is the difference between the 1 or 3 year registration?: The time frame is tied to what kind of rabies shots your pet is getting. There is a 1 year shot and a 3 year shot. The registration is tied to that shot. You cannot register your pet for 3 years if you are only getting a 1 year rabies shot.

1. My dog is microchipped, so it is already registered. Why would I need to register with the city?: There are several different manufacturers of microchips. Each has its own registry. Although Animal Services staff can normally access these databases, it isn't a 100% guarantee. By registering with the city we have your information no matter which chip your pet has.

2. Since the program is voluntary, why should I pay to sign up?: Again, the most important reason is to speed up the reunion with your pet. The McKinney Animal Shelter will reduce your fees if your pet happens to be impounded.

4. Will I get reminders?: Yes, we will send you a reminder that it is time to renew your registration. That also means it is time to renew the rabies shot.
